New Class - Christmas tags and a gift card holder

I hope you will join me in a class I will be teaching on Tuesday, October 28th starting at 6:00 pm.   We will make 5 Christmas tags and a gift card holder.  You can make labels in class  to put on the back of the tag that say "to" and "from" and then add the tag to a Christmas present.  Or, you can adhere the tag to the front of a greeting card.  The gift card envelope is easily made from a die.

Pictures are below, but were taken before I got all the ribbons added to the tags. The cost for the class is $9.00 for materials and $10 for the teacher.

Materials you'll need to bring to class are:
  Liquid glue, like Tomboe
  Tape runner
  Pop dots or dimensionals

Bring these items if you have them, otherwise you can share:
Tweezers
Poker tool for dies
Corner rounder
Distress ink, evergreen bough
Stayzon ink, opaque
Stickles, lime green

The base for the deer tag is see-through acrylic.  If you don't like the looks of the old lady on the "naughty list" tag, you can leave her off and replace her with something more attractive.

If you'd like to take this class, you'll need to sign up no later than Monday evening, so I have enough time to make up kits.  Sorry this is going out so late; I've been busy and also on vacation.  Hope to see you in class.

September Stencilling On Greeting Cards Class

Here's the 4 cards we will make in the September 10 class that begins at 6:00pm at Scrapmania.

Stencilling is a very popular trend right now.  Come to this class and learn some simple stencilling techniques and see for yourself how much fun, and easy, it is to stencil.

We'll learn layering with stencils, we'll use embossing paste through a stencil, and you'll learn a paint/ink resist with embossing paste.   We'll use Ranger Distress Inks for coloring and you'll have access to my collection of over 40 stencils.

The bird on the left is from a 6 stamp collection designed by Dina Wakley.  Isn't he the cutest?  Stacy has ordered the set.  The face card is done with a stencil; Stacy has also ordered some of those.  The card on the right is done with a Wendy Vecchi Stamp It Stencil It set, which is also on order.

I want you to play with stencils, so you'll get extra cardstock and watercolor paper for use in this class, besides the paper needed for the cards.  The store will also provide the embossing paste, the paint and the  daubers.

You will need to bring a craft sheet, Distress Inks (at least a brown, blue, yellow, green and pink or red), a white and black pen or marker, blending tool with foam, pallette knife or credit card. Also bring a small brush, a roll of paper towels and a small spray bottle for water.

Call the store to sign up for the class - 377-9999.  I hope to see you in this fun class.

AUGUST 18th CLASS - CREATING BACKGROUNDS WITH MASKS AND INDIVIDUAL STAMPS

I hope you will join me on August 18th for a very fun, creative class where we will use masks and individual stamps to create 3 cards, 1 notecard and 2 envelopes, one of which we will make using the envelope punch board.

What I mean by individual stamps is that each flower on the cards is a separate stamp.  We will combine those individual stamps, using different colored ink pads on the stamps, to create a background using a mask to mask off areas for a message.  This is a very fun technique that can be used in "zillions" of ways, and it gives you another way to use your stamps.

The class begins at 6:00 at Scrapmania.  The cost for the class is $12.50 for materials and $10 for the teacher.  All of the cards use Hero Arts Shadow inks.  I chose those inks because of the very soft, delicate look they give and how they nicely are absorbed by the paper.  The look is very different from the look from most other ink pads.

The class fee includes Hero Arts Shadow Ink Pads, 4 pack of cube ink pads.

Materials to bring to class:
painter's tape, which can be purchased at Scrapmania
paper cutter
ruler
several acrylic blocks

Bring these items if you have them:
envelope punch board
stampa ma jig
individual stamps - look at my cards to get an idea of the stamps to bring, otherwise  you will share my stamps with others in the class

Call Scrapmania to sign up for this class - 377-9999.  I hope to see  you in class.

Here's the cards and envelopes we will decorate in this class:

TECHNIQUE CLASS: Another Watercolor Class

The second watercolor class will be held on August 12 from 6-8:30.  Materials fee is $8.25 and teacher fee is $10.00.  This is NOT a repeat of the first class and you do NOT need to have taken the first class in order to take this class.

You will learn 2 watercolor techniques, all using Ranger Distress Inks, and you will use those techniques on 4 cards.

My previous watercolor class students asked that we not have to share materials and that we not have to move to different stations. In order to comply with those requests, you will need to bring your own materials.

We will only use Ranger Distress Inks and you will need to bring those ink pads or arrange to share with someone.  I used picked raspberry, scattered straw, dusty concord, victorian velvet, peacock feathers, wild honey, pumice stone and warm lipstick. I wanted each card to be a bit different color-wise, but you can use the same colors on each card to save on having to bring as many ink pads.

If you need to purchase Distress Inks, Stacy will let you buy them when you sign up and pay for class and then receive 10% off, or you can purchase them the night of class for 10% off.  The regular size pad or the new small cubes both work well.

You will also need:
any gray dye ink pad
heat tool
paper cutter
dimensionals
paper towels
water brush, also called aqua brush
blending tool and foam for each ink color
black pen
non stick craft sheet
painter's tape - you can purchase this from the store
a small brush

bring these if you have them:
Big Shot, Cuddlebug, Vagabond die cut machine and plates
Embossing folders you like
Stamp a ma jig

Here are the cards we will make:

I hope you will consider taking this class.  Call the store, Scrapmania, to register.  377-9999.
Check out my August 18th Technique Class, where we will create backgrounds using masks and individual stamps.

Next class - July 29

Hi.  I hope you will join me at the next class I'll be teaching on July 29th, Scrapmania, beginning at 6:00.

Here are the 4 cards we'll be making.  Call the store at 377-9999 to sign up for the class.  Contact me if you have any questions.

This is a card made with acetate, and is a near copy of a card Karen Burniston made, the designer of Pop It Up dies.  I liked the card so much I just had to remake it.
This card is made with 4 dies.
Don't you just love the Heart Lattice Background die?

Another Watercolor Class

I'll be teaching another watercolor class at Scrapmania on August 12th beginning at 6:00.  This class won't be a repeat of the first watercolor class that I taught in June.  The first class isn't a requirement to take this class.  You can sign up for the class by calling the store at 377-9999.  This class is set up differently than the first class.  I will teach one technique and then you will do that technique on 4 differently designed greeting cards, which will give you a better opportunity of practicing and learning that technique.  This will also result in not having to move to different places in the classroom.

June Demo at Scrapmania

On June 21 I will be doing a demo of the Big Shot machine, using embossing folders and dies, including Pop It Ups and Pop N Cuts dies.  The demo will be at Scrapmania from 2:00 - 4:00.  No charge.

July Card Class

On Wednesday July 9th I'll be teaching another paper engineering class at Scrapmania in Cedar Rapids IA.  Class begins at 6:30.  The first, third and fourth cards use dies designed by Karen Burniston for Sizzix and Elizabeth Crafts Design.

Sign up for this class by calling the store at 377-9900.  You'll need to bring your standard class kit in addition to dimensionals, glue dots and Score Tape (or something similar).  The Thoughts of You card uses multiple clear flower stamps to create the front banner of the card.  Bring several flower colors of dye ink pads to create that banner, or you can share with others. I used Hero Arts Shadow ink pads.
Feel free to call me or email me if you have questions.  363-7739 or wpdeal@aol.com

A flower, a butterfly, a park bench and a cupcake!

So what do a flower, a butterfly, a park bench and a cupcake have in common?  They are the themes for 4 greeting cards you can make at a class I am teaching at Scrapmania on Monday, May 12th.  The class is from 6:00 - 8:30pm

Being to class: scissors, tape runner, paper cutter, black ink, blending tool and foam, score tape or red liner tape, liquid glue, dimensionals, glue dots, versamark ink pad, various colors of Stickles, glossy accents, tweezers of quicker picker upper

The above card uses the Elizabeth Craft Designs Pop It Up Bench die, designed by Karen Burniston.  Isn't it the cutest?

This next card uses the Sizzix, label Pop N Cut, designed by Karen Burniston.  The same die design can be found in the Karen Burniston designed Lucy Label Die by Elizabeth Craft.

This card again uses an Elizabeth Craft Design die, designed by Karen Burniston.  This is the Oval Pop It Up pivot die.

There is no pop up to this card, but notice that there are two different embossing patterns.   This is accomplished by using Ranger, Tim Holtz, diffusers.

This card isn't made in the class.  I included it in this blog because it uses the bench die and it is such a cute card.

If you'd like to take this class, register for it by calling Scrapmania
 at 377-9999.

Another April 2014 class

Hi Everyone.  I will be teaching another class at Scrapmania on Wed April 30 from 6:00 to 8:30.  In the class we will make and decorate a Sizzix birdhouse die, designed by Eileen Hull.  Below you can see 7 of the  birdhouses I have decorated. These are SO MUCH FUN to play with.  This is my spring collection of paper birdhouses.  I intend to make birdhouses for the different seasons and holidays to decorate my house.  I will bring an assortment of fun items you can use to decorate your house and we will use paper, foil and cute little wood birds from the store.

We will also make this spring themed card in a box.  It folds flat and can be mailed if you don't want to keep it for yourself to decorate your house.  We'll make an envelope to fit the card and we'll decorate the envelope with watercolor pencils and stamps.
To take this class, please call Scrapmania to register, at 377-9999.  The class cost is $10 for the teacher and $10 for materials.  This will be a very fun, very creative class.  I hope you'll join me.  You will need to bring scissors, tape runner, wet glue, Score tape or red liner tape, glue gots, and either a blending tool with foam or a Ranger sponge (my preference).

New class

I will be teaching classes at Scrapmania in Cedar Rapids. My first class there will be on Monday April 7th from 6:30 to about 8:30.  The class cost is $17.50.  You can register to take this class by calling the store, at 377-9999.

Here's a description of the class:

Spring Fancy Fold and Pop Up Cards:  Shake that cabin fever and join me in making four lovely cards featuring pastel colors of spring and the nostalgic charm of flowers and little girls in pretty dresses, all  displayed across intricate folds and cuts.   We will use 2 Sizzix fold dies and 1 Elizabeth Craft Design Pop It Up die.  These dies make the elaborate designs on the cards as easy as melting snow on a spring day.  I will show you how to combine the dies with gorgeous papers and pretty embellishments to achieve both sweet and elegant looks.

Here's a look at these cards, which are on display at the store.

This card is created by using the Stephanie Bernard designed, Sizzix die.

This card doesn't use a die, but we will make the flower and decorate the butterflies.

This card is made using an Elizabeth Craft Design die, designed by Karen Burniston.  The die is a Pop It Up and is SO EASY to use.

This is another Stephanie Bernard designed, Sizzix die, that created this card base.

I hope you'll join me on April 9th and create these spring-inspired greeting cards.
